Leah makes her home in the piedmont region of North Carolina, not far from the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains to the west. She is a single mom and step-mom of nine (spanning 25 years in age) and grandmom of one precious princess and a darling little prince. Four of her children came through the vehicles of international adoption and domestic foster-to-adoption, therefore she is passionate about rescuing children from hard places and advocating for orphans!
On February 12, 2017, Leah was recently and suddenly faced with becoming a widow for the second time following her beloved, Joel’s, unexpected and shocking death following a brief illness. In 2011, Leah was also met with great tragedy following the suicidal death of her previous husband (Chris). Even during those early dark days following Chris’ death, Leah continued to write for her long-time blog, Out of Deep Waters, which became part of her grief therapy and remains an “electronic oasis”. In June 2016, Leah published her first book, Rescued and Restored, detailing portions of her grief journey throughout her first year as a widow.
Having walked through life as both a widow and single mom, Leah frequently seeks to plead the case for widows and single parents, in general.
Leah works full-time in a ministry setting for a large Christian organization. God has also called her to speak and share His redemptive and restorative love and power to groups worldwide. She loves to write, scrapbook, serve on mission trips, dabble in photography, and she’s passionate about all things Africa! During the months of August through January, you can also find Leah celebrating her Carolina Panthers – win or lose!
